The Hradec Králové – Ostroměř railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated as a local railway by the kk privileged Bohemian Commercial Railways (BCB). It runs from Hradec Králové to Ostroměř and is part of the connection from Hradec Králové to Turnov .

history

On May 9, 1881, the contractors Johann Muzika and Karl Schnabel from Prague were granted the " Concession to build and operate a local railway from Königgrätz to Wostromeř with a branch from Sadowa to Smiřic ".

The line was opened on March 19, 1882. The privately owned Austro-Hungarian state railway company carried out the operation from January 1st, 1883 on behalf of the owners. After its nationalization in 1908, the line belonged to the network of the kk state railways (kkStB).

In 1912, the local railway's timetable showed a total of four mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains over the entire route. Others operated on sections of the route. It took them over two hours for the 35-kilometer route.

After the First World War , which Austria-Hungary lost , the line became the property of the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). At the end of the 1920s there was a significant compression of the timetable as well as a significant reduction in travel times. In some cases, modern motor trains were also used. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded a total of eight pairs of trains that took about an hour to complete the entire route.

During the Second World War , the line was entirely in the Protectorate and was operated by the now Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB).

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia .

In the 2012 timetable, the route is served every hour on weekdays by passenger trains on the Hradec Králové – Jičín (–Turnov) route. Trains run every two hours on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

The line was declared a regional railway ("regionální dráha") in 2014.
