The railway line Hněvčeves – Smiřice is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated by the kk priv. Bohemian Commercial Railways as the local line Sadowa – Smiřic. It runs from Hněvčeves to Smiřice .

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

The concession for the local railway Sadowa – Smiřic was awarded to the founders of BCB, the building contractors Johann Muzika and Karl Schnabel on May 9, 1881 together with the lines Königgrätz – Wostroměř , Nimburg – Jičín , Kopidlno – Bakow , Křinec – Königstadtl , Nezvěstitz – Miröschau and Nusle – Modřan . Part of the concession was the obligation to “ complete the routes and hand them over to public transport ” by September 1, 1882 . The license was issued until May 8, 1971.

Smiřice Railway Station (2010)

The local railway leading through the rural areas south of the Horschitzer Bergland from the Bystřice valley to the Elbe was primarily designed as a beet railway to transport crops to the sugar factories. It was put into operation on March 19, 1882.

After the nationalization of the Bohemian Commercial Railways, the line was transferred to the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on January 1, 1908 . After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD took their place .

During the Second World War , the line was entirely in the Protectorate and was operated by the now Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). In 1941 the line was extended from the previous end point "Smiřice zastávka" to Smiřice station .

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC). It was last used as the route book route 046 Smiřice - Hněvčeves. On December 12, 2004, passenger traffic on the route was discontinued, which was most recently handled exclusively with the proven two-axle railcars of the ČD series 810 .

Today, historical trains from the Jaroměř Railway Museum run on special dates in the summer months .
