The Kopidlno – Bakov nad Jizerou railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated by the Bohemian Commercial Railways (BCB) as the Liban – Bakow local railway. It runs from Kopidlno via Dolní Bousov to Bakov nad Jizerou .

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

Dětenice railway station (2004)

The concession for the Kopidlno – Liban local railway was given to the founders of BCB, the contractors Johann Muzika and Karl Schnabel on May 9, 1881, together with the Königgrätz – Wostroměř , Sadowa – Smiřic , Nimburg – Jičín , Křinec – Königstadtl , Nezvěstitz – Miröschau and lines Nusle – Modřan . Part of the concession was the obligation to “ complete the routes and hand them over to public transport ” by September 1, 1882 . The concession was issued until May 8, 1971. The line was opened on July 1, 1882. The BCB carried out the operation itself.

The concession for the continuation of the Liban – Bakow line was awarded to BCB on May 17, 1882, together with the Dětenic – Dobrowitz and Krupa – Kolleschowitz lines . Part of the concession was the obligation to "complete the routes within a year ... and hand them over to public transport ". The license was issued until May 17, 1972. The line was opened on August 25, 1883.

After the nationalization of the BCB in 1909, the line came to the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB). In 1912, the local railway timetable showed two mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains every day. They needed a little over two hours for the 42-kilometer Kopidlno – Bakow route.

Lítkovice stop (2012)

After the First World War , which Austria-Hungary lost , the line became the property of the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

In 2009 the weekday passenger train service between Kopidlno and Dolní Bousov was discontinued in favor of a bus line. The remaining trips on the weekend ended in March 2010. In the 2012 timetable, the route is served on weekdays by three pairs of passenger trains on the Dolní Bousov – Bakov nad Jizerou route.

In 2016, the section from Kopidlno to Dolní Bousov became the property of AŽD Praha . The Czech manufacturer of railway safety technology would like to use the route as a test route for driverless trains.

In November 2019, AŽD announced that they wanted to equip around three kilometers of the route at Dětenice station as a test route for the operation of driverless trains. The new ESA 44 train protection system is also to be installed at Dětenice station. The ETCS system based on GSM-R is set up in the adjacent sections. The first driverless test train is to run on the route in 2020.
