Libáň (German Liban ) is a city in the Czech Republic . The agricultural-industrial settlement is located in the southern part of the Okres Jičín 15 km southwest of Jičín .
history
In the historical records from the 14th century the place is still referred to as Lubaň and later Ljuban . However, according to excavations that have been found, the place was probably already inhabited during the younger Stone Age , the Bronze Age , but also during the time of Roman rule . Libáň was elevated to the rank of town in 1340. Its history is linked to the history of the renaissance chateau Staré Hrady , which also owned the town. A significant upswing reached Libáň under Georg Proskowski von Proskau . This noblewoman achieved the recall to the city with Emperor Maximilian II in 1574 and the simultaneous handing over of a coat of arms. In the last two centuries the place changed into an industrial city. In 1870 a sugar factory was opened, later the tobacco industry and furniture factories were added.
