Staré Hrady Castle

Staré Hrady (German Altenburg ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located twelve kilometers southwest of the district town of Jičín near Libáň .

history

Stará was probably founded in the 13th century. The first owner known by name was Arnestus “de Hostine ” ( Arnošt z Hostiné ). He acquired the castle in Stará around 1332, where he wrote his will in 1340, which was attested by the neighboring Vladiken Vok z Kopidlna , Sipa z Nemojčevsi , Bohuňek z Lopuče, Buzek z Markvartic and Zdešek z Stŕevač . After his death in 1342 Stará became the widow's estate of the Adlička "de Stara". The eldest son, later Archbishop Ernst von Pardubitz , who never used the predicate "de Stara", became the guardian of his younger brothers Bohuslav, Smil and Wilhelm . Wilhelm's son Smil Flaška von Pardubitz sold the Stará rule to Paul von Jenstein ( Pavel z Jenšteina ) in 1393, who was followed by various owners in the 15th century.

A Gothic castle with the chapel of John the Baptist was built in the 14th century . In 1503 the Stará dominion was acquired by Johann Rašin von Riesenburg and in 1567 it was first named "Altenburg" when it was sold to Christoph von Lobkowitz . Four years later it passed to his son-in-law Georg Proskowski von Proskau , who had the castle converted into a Renaissance palace. In 1618 the indebted rule was acquired by Wilhelm von Lobkowitz and in 1628 by Albrecht von Waldstein . After his murder in 1634 it came to the Schlick family , who, however, resided in neighboring Kopidlno . After the death of childless Erwin Schlick, Staré Hrady acquired the Weißenwolf family in 1906, whose daughter Henriette von Thurn und Taxis became the last owner. In 1921 the rule became state property.

Although the palace complex was intended for demolition, extensive restorations were carried out in 1960 and a branch of the literary archive of the Museum for National Literature was subsequently housed in the buildings.

In 1964 the municipalities of Staré Hrady and Sedliště were united.
