history

Around 1300 the royal castle Weliss was built on the Veliš mountain. A settlement formed in front of the castle, which was first mentioned in 1546 as Welissi . The village of Podhrady , which belonged to the Velish castle rule, was the economic center of the castle. After the Battle of the White Mountain , on July 22nd, 1622, Albrecht von Waldstein bought the Welisch rule and incorporated it into the Duchy of Friedland .

After Wallenstein's murder in 1634, Heinrich Schlick received part of the rule including Podhrady on January 27, 1635 by imperial decree. In 1658 the castle was razed, which from then on was used by the residents of the village to extract building materials. In 1790 Podhrady was designated as a submissive market. The place was parish after Welisch .

In the 19th century basalt was quarried on the Veliš. Until the quarry was closed in 1879, large parts of the hilltop had been removed; Little of the castle ruins has been preserved.

On May 17, 1954, the place was downgraded to a village. In 1998 the ruins of Veliš, the Church of St. Wenceslas in Veliš, the baroque castle Vokšice, the Andělíček chapel and the Loreta of the Virgin Mary were declared a historical monument. Since January 23, 2007 Podhradí has again the status of a patch.
