The Protestant Church Bexbach is the parish church of the Protestant parish in Saarland Bexbach in the church district ( Dean's Office ) Homburg / Saar of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate . The church is listed as an individual monument in the Saarland's list of monuments .

history

The foundation stone for the church was laid on June 3, 1888. The church was consecrated on September 29, 1889 the following year. The church building was built according to plans by the architect Ludwig Levy ( Karlsruhe ). District master builder Johann Caspar Löhmer ( Homburg ) was responsible for the construction management .

The church was first restored in 1925–26. During the restoration work, which the architect Friedrich Larouette ( Frankenthal ) led, there was also a renovation. Further restorations took place in 1961, 1972–73 (architect: Fritz Stucky (Homburg)), 1982–83 and 2006–08.

In 2004 the Protestant Church Building Association Bexbach Mitte e. V. founded, whose aim is to help with the renovation , maintenance and upkeep of the listed church and its outdoor area in an ideal and material way.

architecture

The church building, which offers space for 400 people in the nave and 300 people in the gallery , was built in the style of historicism and is characterized by a pluralism of styles . The area of the building is 278 m 2 .

The nave with three window axes is characterized on the outside by an alternating division into wide wall fields with gables and narrow wall fields. These components are optically structured by pilaster strips . The design chosen here is characteristic of the secular architecture of the Renaissance , which fell into the age of the Reformation and can therefore be seen as a reminiscence of the Protestant denomination . The windows are in the three wider gable wall panels . There are two rows of windows that are combined by a niche . The lower, coupled windows show features of the Renaissance, the upper ones with round arches, Neo-Romanesque features. The 28 m high tower that precedes the nave is flanked by two staircase extensions and has wide pilaster strips and a number of neo-Romanesque dividing elements on its exterior .

The interior is dominated by wooden structures . The open, wooden gallery is angled on two sides and thus forms a part above the main entrance in the west, on which the organ stands, and two lateral parts along the walls of the nave. It is supported by square wooden pillars. A painted, wooden barrel vault spans the central part of the nave .

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1892 by the organ factory “H. Voit & Sons ”( Durlach ). The instrument has 15 registers , divided into two manuals and a pedal . The organ, which has a housing in the neo-Romanesque style, is set up on the gallery. Your gaming table is free-standing. In 1955 a renovation was carried out by Lotar Hintz ( Saarbrücken ), and in 1993 a restoration by Peter Vier ( Oberweier ).
