The Skalsko – Stará Paka railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built by the Sudoměř-Skalsko – Alt Paka (Czech: Místní dráha Sudoměř-Skalsko – Stará Paka ) local railway as a guaranteed local railway . The route leads from Skalsko via Mladá Boleslav ( Jungbunzlau ), Sobotka and Lomnice nad Popelkou ( Lomnitz an der Popelka ) to Stará Paka ( Altpaka ).

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

On January 19, 1904 Messrs Heinrich G. Maštálka from Sobotka, Wenzel Hanoušek from Jungbunzlau, Theodor Mastný from Lomnitz, Wenzel Michal from Jungbunzlau and Cyrill Papoušek from Groß Wschelis were granted the concession to run a standard-gauge local train from the locomotive between the stations Sudoměř and Skalsko of the local railway Mscheno – Unter Cetno to build a new station Sudoměř-Skalsko via Jungbunzlau and Unter-Bautzen to Altpaka .

On November 26, 1905, the first section from Sudoměř -Skalsko via Mladá Boleslav ( Jungbunzlau ) to Sobotka was opened. The remaining sections of the line were put into operation on June 1, 1906 (Lomnice nad Popelkou – Stará Paka) and September 24, 1906 (Sobotka – Lomnice nad Popelkou). The operation was carried out by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on behalf of the owners.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). On January 1, 1925, the local railway Sudoměř-Skalsko-Alt Paka was nationalized and the line was integrated into the ČSD network. It was henceforth administered by the State Railway Directorate (Ředitelství státních drah) Hradec Králové.

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

In the 2013 annual timetable, the route will be served by passenger trains every two hours on the Mělník – Lomnice nad Popelkou and Lomnice to Popelkou – Stará Paka routes.

The section between Katusice and Bukovno has been extensively repaired since October 2018. After the construction work is completed, there will be regular two-hour travel between Mlada Boleslav and Mělník. In Katusice station, the trains then cross at the usual minute of symmetry . In both Mlada Boleslav and Mělník the connections will then be accessible from and in all directions.

Vehicle use

For the account of the local railway Sudoměř-Skalsko-Alt Paka , the kkStB procured two locomotives of the 178 series and three of the 99 series . The locomotives had the road numbers 178.43 to 44 and 99.57 to 60. The four locomotives of the 99 series were named BOLESLAV , SOBOTKA , LOMNICE and GERSTNER .

From the end of the 1920s, the ČSD also used modern motorized multiple units of the M 130.1 and M 120.4 series . The old local train locomotives were replaced by the 423.0 series in the 1930s .

After the Second World War, the railcars of the M 131.1 series dominated passenger transport for a long time until they were replaced by those of the M 152.0 series (today: 810) in the 1970s . Today, travel is almost exclusively handled by the ČD class 814 railcar units .
