The Jičín – Turnov railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated as a nationally guaranteed local railway Jičín – Rowensko – Turnau (Czech: Místní dráha Jičín – Rovensko – Turnov ). The route by the landscape of the Czech Paradise of Jičín about rovensko pod troskami according Turnov ( Turnau ). It is part of the connection from Hradec Králové to Turnov.

history

On December 7, 1901 the concession was granted to build a standard-gauge local train from the Jičín station on the Wostroměř – Jičín line of the kk private Austrian Northwest Railway to the Turnau station of the kk private Bohemian Northern Railway Company . The company's share capital totaled 816,000 crowns in 2,040 ordinary shares of 400 crowns each.

The line was opened on October 19, 1903. The operation was carried out by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on behalf of the owners.

Hrubá Skála Railway Station (2011)

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). On January 1, 1925, the local railway Jičín – Rowensko – Turnau was nationalized and the line was integrated into the ČSD network. It was henceforth administered by the State Railway Directorate (Ředitelství státních drah) Hradec Králové.

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

In the 2013 annual timetable, the route will be served by passenger trains at approximately two-hour intervals on the Hradec Králové – Turnov route. Other trains run on partial routes.

The line was declared a regional railway ("regionální dráha") in 2014.

Vehicle use

For the account of the local railway Jičín – Rowensko – Turnau , the kkStB procured three class 97 locomotives . The locomotives had the road numbers 97.217, 218 and 248.

Today (2013) tourist traffic is handled almost exclusively with the railcars of the ČD series 814 ("Regionova").
