The Jizera (German Iser , Polish Izera ) is a right tributary of the Elbe in the Czech Republic .

The Jizera rises in the Jizera Mountains on the southeastern slope of the Smrk ( table spruce ). The Jizerka ( Little Jizera ) flows into it on the right , the sources of which lie in the Tetřeví louka bog southeast of the Smědava. In Jizerka it flows into the Jizera east of the Bukovec . The Jizera has a catchment area of 2,193 km² and flows into the Elbe after 164 km at Lázně Toušeň .
Name and origin
According to the current state of research, the name of the river can be traced back to the hypothetical Indo-European root es or is in the meaning "(flowing) water", which in today's languages has narrowed to the solid state of the water ("ice").
