history

At the transition from the 13th to the 14th century, the colonization of the forest areas on the upper reaches of the Silent Eagle began. In the first half of the 14th century ore deposits were discovered and a settlement of miners emerged. The first written mention of Wyskenstad comes from 1367. The first church was built at this time. Until the beginning of the 16th century the village belonged to the Žampach dominion. In 1513 Jan von Žampach and Potštejn had a fortress built. In 1577 Wichstadtl was called a town and there was a glassworks in operation.

Until the abolition of patrimonial rule in 1848, the Counts Althann were the owners of Wichstadtl for a long time. Then Wichstadtl was part of the Senftenberg district administration. In 1898 the place received a railway connection.

Between 1935 and 1938, several bunker lines of the Czechoslovak Wall were built here to secure the Valley of the Silent Eagles. After the Munich Agreement , the place was incorporated into the German Reich and was part of the German district of Grulich until 1945 . After the end of the Second World War, the German-Bohemian residents were expelled. In the following decades there were many Czechs from the interior, Roma , repatriates and Slovaks .
