history
Brandeis was first mentioned in the 13th century when Heinrich von Brandis, a descendant of the Saxon noble family von Brandis , had a castle built here. In the 15th and 16th centuries, this belonged to the noble Kostka von Postupice family . With their consent, Bohemian brothers settled in Brandeis from 1457 , among them Řehoř Krajčí , who died here in 1474. In 1490 the Brothers' Union held a synod in Brandeis. In 1506 Wilhelm II of Pernstein bought the castle and the Brandeis estate and from 1558 the lands belonged to the lords of Žerotín . The most famous owner of the Brandeis rule was Karl d. Ä. von Žerotín , who was born here in 1564 and during the re-catholicization gave shelter to numerous supporters of the Brethren, including Johann Amos Comenius from 1622 to 1625 .
Since the middle of the 17th century, the lands belonged to the Trauttmansdorff family , who also had the castle built here in 1781. In the second half of the 19th century, Brandýs was a popular excursion destination, where many celebrities met, including Professor Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk , the writers Julius Zeyer and Karel Václav Rais , and later Alois Jirásek and others. At the beginning of the 20th century, the so-called king of violins, František Ondříček, and numerous painters lived in Brandýs . Even today, the city is one of the popular recreational and excursion destinations with a lively cultural life.
