Karel Vaclav Rais
Karel Václav Rais (born January 4, 1859 in Bělohrad , Königgrätzer Kreis , † July 8, 1926 in Prague ) was a Czech writer and journalist . He was the author of several books for young people and also wrote poetry. His work can be assigned to realism .
Life
Karel Rais came from the family of a farmer. After studying to be a teacher in Jičín and Prague, he worked as a teacher in Trhová Kamenice from 1877 and in 1899 was the head of the elementary school in the Vinohrady district of Prague . In Prague he made friends with numerous writers and artists, including Alois Jirásek , Zikmund Winter , Josef Václav Sládek and Ignát Herrmann .
In addition to his work as editor of the magazine "Zvon" ( bell ), Rais also wrote for various other papers. He was a member of the literary association "Máj" and the writers' association Svatobor .
He is buried in the Vinohrady Cemetery in Prague.
