Zikmund Winter
Zikmund Winter (born December 27, 1846 in Prague , † June 12, 1912 in Bad Reichenhall ) was a Czech writer and historian .
Life
Zikmund Winter was born into a bell ringer family in Prague's old town . After graduating from high school , he wanted to become a priest and studied theology under the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star . After a year, however, he changed subjects and began to study history. He attended lectures by Václav Vladivoj Tomek , Josef Kalousek , Antonín Gindely and Josef Emler . After completing his studies, he taught at secondary schools in Pardubice and Rakovník .
Winter worked intensively on the archive in Rakovník and collected data on society and private life in the rural town during the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1884 Winter returned to Prague as a teacher. There he was in contact with Alois Jirásek , Jaroslav Vrchlický , Karel Václav Rais and others. Unlike Jirásek, Winter also turned to more modern approaches to history and literature.
He is buried in the Vinohrady Cemetery in Prague.

Winter wrote volumes of history on Bohemian cities and universities. His work includes historical novels , historical treatises processed in fiction.
