Bell ringer
A bell ringer (outdated, lat. Campanarius ) is a person whose job it is to ring the church bells in a church .
Nowadays this task is carried out by the sextons or sacristans. Today, however, this is usually no longer done by pulling the bell rope, but by means of an electrical control that is switched on manually or automatically.
Almost all bell ringer, as in earlier times, work on a voluntary basis. The high point of a bell ringer career is essentially doing traditional work during an official church service .
The profession became known through the novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo and the films and musicals of the same name.
