Čenkovice (German Tschenkowitz even Czenkowitz , formerly Schunkendorf , Czunkendorf ) is a village of 192 inhabitants in the Ústí nad Orlicí District in the Czech Republic .

geography

It is located 20 km northwest of Šumperk in Eastern Bohemia on the southern foothills of the Eagle Mountains not far from the border with Poland . The place is located directly on the western slope of the 958 m high Buková hora. The source of the Moravská Sázava is located south of the village .

history

Before 1945 Tschenkowitz was predominantly inhabited by Germans, the German-speaking population, who spoke a particularly archaic dialect - the so-called Tschenkowitz dialect - was expelled after the Second World War on the basis of the Beneš decrees . Today Tschenkowitz is a popular winter sports center.
