history

Deštné belonged to the Königgrätzer district and was first mentioned in 1362. This year it was built by the Lords of Dobruška the monastery Heiligenfeld transmitted. After the fall of the monastery in the Hussite Wars, it came under the rule of Opočno . In the course of history it belonged to the Černíkovice estate and finally to the Kolowrat family on Rychnov nad Kněžnou .

The residents lived from woodcutting, ash distillery, glassmaking, charcoal burning and working in sawmills, grinding mills and glassworks. In addition, mountain pasture farming was practiced; almost all of them earned an extra income with woodworking crafts and fancy dressing .

After patrimonial was replaced, Deschney became an independent municipality in 1848, which from 1850 belonged to the Neustadt an der Mettau district administration . In 1854 Deschney with Brand, Hinterwinkel, Wiederdriß, Dörfel, Hüttenberg and Stiefwinkel had 1206 inhabitants. 698 people lived in Plaßnitz with Lukawinkel, Plitzdorf, Schediwy, Wickelhäuser and Wollberg.

After the Munich Agreement , Deschney came to the German Reich in October 1938 and became part of the Grulich district . At that time, 900 people lived in 211 houses in Deschney. After the Second World War, the majority of Germans were expelled . In 1950 the community had 922 inhabitants. In the second half of the 20th century, the number of inhabitants fell again when many people moved away. Jedlová v Orlických horách was incorporated in 1949. In 1961, Mnichová was incorporated, which had previously been part of Lomy as a district. Plasnice, previously part of Šediviny, came to Deštné on January 1, 1967.

Today Deštné is primarily a holiday destination. In winter there is a large ski area with slopes of various degrees of difficulty available to guests (“Skicentrum Deštné”), plus an extensive network of cross-country trails . In summer Deštné is a destination for hikers and cyclists, for whom an equally dense network of marked trails is available.

Deschneyer Glashütte

From 1495 to 1750 the manor ran a glassworks in Deschney territory. In 1595 Jan Trčka von Lípa confirmed that the glassworks master Georg Keller had bought it. For 1637 Donath Preußler ( Preissler ), for 1658 Anton Friedrich as glass master is proven. Because of the increasing deforestation, the glassworks was moved further and further up into the mountains and operated from 1660 until it was closed in 1750 on the slope of the Deschneyer Kleinkoppe at 940 m above sea level. The hut gained fame for the production of the Kolowrater crystal. She was the only one who made this luxurious glass. The Kolowratsche glass and porcelain painter Ignaz Preissler also worked for them .

Another glassworks, the Karolinenhütte, was operated in the Tanndorfer Hinterwinkel from 1873 to 1910 by the lords of Solnice .
