history

The first written record dates back to 1308, when Jaroslav von Borohrádek and Ctibor von Uhersko defeated Frederick the Fair's troops between Opočno and Turov . Since 1342 Borohrádek was the seat of power and belonged to the lords of Pottenstein . Around 1400 it was owned by the Licek von Riesenburg ( Lickové z Rýzmburka ). Later it came to Nikolaus ( Mikuláš ) Licek von Riesenburg, who was accepted into the gentry's estate at the beginning of the 16th century and died around 1504. Borohrádek's heir was his son Jan Licek, who in 1548 acquired the Rokitnitz and Hoděčín dominions . Through his son Siegmund ( Zikmund ) Borohrádek got his five sons. They sold the Borohrádek rule to Christoph Betengel the Elder in 1582. Ä. von Neuenberg, who was also Lord of Reichenau between 1587 and 1589 . During the reign of the Betenangels, the old fortress was rebuilt; a new mansion and a farm yard were built. In 1730, under Franz Karl II. Kolowrat von Liebstein, the farm yard was rebuilt.

In 1811 the mansion burned down and Franz Josef II. Kolowrat von Liebstein had a little Empire castle built between 1816 and 1820. The other owners of the castle were the lords von Lützow and the Salm-Salm family , who owned the castle until it was nationalized in 1945. In 1971 the Borohrádek market was raised to the status of a town.
