Janov (German Johanneshöfen ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located eight kilometers east of Nové Město nad Metují in the Eagle Mountains and belongs to the Okres Rychnov nad Kněžnou .
geography
Janov is located in the northwest of the Eagle Mountains between the valleys of the Janovský potok and Ohnišovský potok . To the southeast are the ruins of Dobřany Castle .
Neighboring towns are Tis in the north, Sněžné in the northeast, Sedloňov in the east, Dobřany in the southeast, Bystré in the south, Ohnišov in the southwest, Vanovka in the west and Bohdašín in the northwest.
history
Both Janov and Tis were first mentioned in a document in 1544. Until the replacement of patrimonial in 1848 Janov belonged to the Opočno domain . In 1850 the place came to the district of Neustadt an der Mettau and remained in this district until the dissolution of the Okres Nové Město nad Metují in 1949. Between 1949 and 1960 the place was part of the Okres Dobruška and has been part of the Okres Rychnov nad Kněžnou ever since.
In 1960 Tis was incorporated.

The community Janov consists of the districts Janov ( Johanneshöfen ) and Tis ( Eiben ).
Attractions
- Chapel of St. Joseph in Janov
- Marian pilgrimage church Rokole, on the Olešenka river near Tis. The little church, consecrated in 1930, replaced a wooden chapel from 1859. The Betlém Apostle Chapel of the Schoenstatt Movement is still located at the pilgrimage site . The stone Way of the Cross from the Olešenka Valley was laid out in 1874.
