history
Borovnice was first mentioned in 1341 as the property of Wenceslaus Zaruba Sudlitschka von Borovnice. Wenzel defended his property in long battles with Ješek and Čeněk von Bothenstein , the sons of Nikolaus von Bothenstein. In 1480 the castle captain of Litice , Matthias Sudlitschka von Borovnice, sold the place to Katharina von Pernstein . After 1500 Wenzel von Okrauhlik on Groß Herrndorf acquired the village. The first evidence of the Kienwald water fortress, which was located at the large pond, comes from the time of the Lords of Okrauhlik. In 1587 the property came through the marriage of Katharinas von Okrauhlik to Johann the Elder Kapoun von Schwoika. His son could not hold the property and sold it in 1597 because of over-indebtedness. Since then there have been frequent changes of ownership. Around 1650, under Johann Peter Hober, the renaissance castle Kienwald was built and the old fortress was given up. In 1688 Theresia Eleonora, widowed von Ugarte († 1705), acquired the rule of Hober. Under the Count Ugarte , whose branch of the male family died out in 1744, the castle was redesigned in baroque style. After the removal of patrimonial Kienwald became an independent municipality in 1848.
The von Kinsky princes owned the castle until 1945 . After the Second World War , the castle became the seat of the agricultural production cooperative and the municipal administration. The ruined castle was last used as a dormitory for seasonal workers and was demolished in 1972. In 1973 the remains of the fortress were also torn down.
