The Deštenský Špičák or Špičák ( German  Spitzberg , also Deschneyer Spitzberg ) is an 841 m high mountain in the Nachoder Bergland ( Náchodská vrchovina ) in the Czech Republic . It is located just under two kilometers northwest of Deštné v Orlických horách and is the highest elevation in the Nachoder Bergland and the entire Eagle Mountain Foreland ( Podorlická pahorkatina ).

geography

Deštenský Špičák is the north-western peak of a wooded ridge that rises west of the Deštná valley. To the southeast, there is an unnamed peak (833 m nm) and the southern peak known as Plasnický Špičák (833 m nm) . The north, west and south slopes of the mountain are characterized by two large disused quarries. The Koutský creek rises on the south-western slope of the mountain.

Surrounding villages are Víska ( Pfitzendörfel ) and Plasnice in the north, Ošerov and Víska ( Dörfel ) in the northeast, Paseka in the east, Deštné and Dříš in the southeast, Kout in the south, Šediviny and Končiny in the west and Lesní Domov in the northwest.

geology

The Spitzberg is mainly composed of gabbro , a basic plutonic rock that is typically u. a. for deeper regions of the oceanic crust . The southern summit ( Plasnický Špičák ) and the western flank of the mountain consist of amphibolite , a metamorphic rock that emerges from basic igneous rocks , in addition to gabbro . In fact, gabbro and amphibolite do not have any sharp contact on the Spitzberg, but they gradually merge. The anorthite share among the plagioclase is the gabbros at approximately 50%, thus the rock as "gabbro diorite is addressed". Regional geologically, the Spitzberg gabbro and the amphibolite surrounding it belong to the Nové-Město group of the Orlické-hory-Kładsko crystalline of the Lausitz- West Sudeten Zone ( Lugicum ) of the Bohemian Massif . In general, the (meta-) basites of the Nové-Město group are interpreted as evidence of the Cambrian magmatism of a continental rift valley that developed into an oceanic spreading zone .

history

The border between the forest districts of the Opočno and Reichenau lords used to run east of the summit . Mědílkova vyhlídka used to be located on the top . With the opening of the gabbro quarry on the western slope, the lookout point was abolished in 1937. The stone was initially used to build the Czechoslovak Wall , later to build roads and paths.

Today there is another viewpoint near the deforested main summit above the abandoned quarry. On the eastern slope of Plasnický Špičák there is the Na Špičáku ski slope with a lift and a toboggan run.

view

The Spitzberg offers a wide view; in the west the view extends over the Hohenbrucker Tafel ( Třebechovické tabule ), in the north over the lower parts of the Nachoder Bergland. To the east and south-east there is a view of the Deschneyer Tal and the Albatal with the panorama of the Adlergebirge ridge .
