Freya Pausewang
Freya Pausewang (born August 20, 1932 in Wichstadtl , Czechoslovakia ; † July 6, 2020 in Schlangenbad-Georgenborn) was a German social worker and author.
Life
After working as an educator and training as a social pedagogue, Pausewang worked from 1957 to 1960 in the boarding school of a German school in Chile. She then got a job in the kindergarten of the German school in Mumbai / India from the Foreign Office. After her three-year contract expired, she worked for another five years in a home for orphaned Indian children in Mumbai. In 1968 she returned to Germany. In Mainz she completed additional training as a teacher for vocational schools. From 1969 she taught future educators at a college for social education in Mainz. In addition, she worked temporarily as a guest lecturer at the Fachhochschule für Sozialwesen in Wiesbaden.
Pausewang has been writing educational textbooks and articles since 1990. Her main focus was on the training and further education of kindergarten teachers and the upbringing and education in early childhood in day-care centers and in the family. She advocated an upbringing that encourages the child in the first years of life in his or her original desire to learn and his willingness to work, and that sets the course for future viability. In view of the global crises, she understood this to mean preparing for a life that will require dealing with changed lifestyles and coping with great challenges. Freya Pausewang was also involved in the Attac movement, which is critical of globalization, and in terre des hommes .
The writer Gudrun Pausewang was her sister.
