Club career

Pilař began playing football at SK Prevysov and moved to RSK Cidlina Novy Bydzov in 1997 and to FC Hradec Králové in 2003 . There he was part of the professional squad of the then second division team from the 2006/07 season. In the 2009/10 season Pilař contributed ten goals to the promotion of his club to the Gambrinus League . In his first season in the top Czech division, Pilař scored three goals in 28 games. For the 2011/12 season he moved on loan to the reigning Czech champions Viktoria Pilsen .

For the 2012/13 season he moved to VfL Wolfsburg .

After he was not used in Wolfsburg due to an injury, Pilař was loaned to SC Freiburg for the 2013/14 season with a subsequent purchase option . On October 19, 2013, after a break of more than a year due to injury, he made his debut in the Bundesliga for SC Freiburg in a 0-0 draw against Werder Bremen.

For the 2014/15 season Pilař returned - initially on loan - to Viktoria Plzen in the Synot League . After 16 missions in which he scored two goals, Viktoria Pilsen pulled the purchase option and tied Pilař to the club until June 30, 2017. In May 2017, Pilař extended his contract with Viktoria Plzen until 2019.
