Brigitte Krex
Brigitte Krex (born May 14, 1938 in Potsdam ) is a German film editor who was one of the longstanding editors of the GDR DEFA studio for feature films. She worked u. a. together with film directors such as Martin Hellberg , Kurt Maetzig and Herrmann Zschoche . After 1990 she worked mainly in Hamburg for the NDF (New German Film Company).
In total, Krex was involved in more than 44 feature film and television productions as well as more than 50 documentaries as an editor.
Life
Brigitte Krex studied from 1955 in the first year of the newly founded technical college for film technology professions in Babelsberg, which was later affiliated to the Babelsberg film school . She graduated in 1958 with a diploma as a cutter. She then began her professional career at the DEFA studio for feature films, initially as an assistant to the renowned editor Ursula Rudzki , and for the last time in 1962 for The Discovery of Julian Böll . She presented her first independent editing work in 1962 under the direction of Martin Hellberg for Minna von Barnhelm .
In the following years she worked successfully with Herrmann Zschoche and was involved in some of his best films, including the film Karla , which was banned in 1965 .
From 1966 to 1971 she edited several films in collaboration with one of the DEFA founders, Kurt Maetzig , in whose work she particularly appreciated the largely lack of pathos.
Brigitte Krex has also been involved in some of Siegfried Kühn's best films . His satire The Second Life of Friedrich Wilhelm Georg Platow (1972/73) also became a masterpiece thanks to Krex's work, which brought black and white and colored sequences into an aesthetic harmony.
There was also an intensive collaboration with Bernhard Stephan . Stefan's debut film For Love Still Too Skinny (1973), edited by Brigitte Krex, was a great success with the public.
In 1977 she edited the film Jörg Ratgeb, Maler for Bernhard Stefan . Stephan loved close-ups of faces, hands and props, and Brigitte Krex created an impatient process in the montage that corresponded to the painter's insubordination. In Stephen's Ruth Werner adaptation Sonjas Rapport (1982), the editor interwoven play and documentary recordings, giving the film a sober atmosphere.
In addition to the feature films, she edited thirteen TV productions, some of them multi-part, as commissioned productions for DEFA, including films directed by Janos Veiczi , Georgi Kissimow, Christian Steinke and Joachim Kunert . She also edited over 50 documentaries, including the one who was awarded the main prize Golden Dove at the Leipzig International Documentary Film Festival (now DOK Leipzig ) in 1971 - if not us from Kurt Tetzlaff .
With the turnaround and the liquidation of the DEFA studio for feature films, Brigitte Krex was also given notice in 1991.
She worked temporarily on the Babelsberg studio tour as an explainer for the area of film editing before she edited Der Menschenfresser for Alexander Jahrreis in 1993 .
In the following years she worked as a freelancer in Hamburg for the NDF (Neue Deutsche Filmgesellschaft) and cut 57 episodes of the TV series Friends for Life from 1994-2000 and 11 episodes of the series Drunter und Drüber as well as the TV love drama Suddenly everything from 1998-1999 differently directed by Dagmar Damek .
Despite reaching retirement age in 2000, Krex is still occasionally working as a dubbing editor in various dubbing studios, primarily at BSG ( Berliner Synchron GmbH ).
As a tribute to her achievements at DEFA, Brigitte Krex has the opportunity to speak personally in a video in the permanent exhibition at the Filmmuseum Potsdam , where she speaks about her work as an editor.
Brigitte Krex now lives in Potsdam.
