Michael Gruner

Michael Gruner (born January 1, 1945 in Falkenstein / Vogtl. ) Is a German director and general manager .

Live and act

Growing up in Berlin and Frankfurt am Main, he began studying acting in Frankfurt in 1963. In 1965 he got an engagement as an actor at the Darmstadt State Theater . In 1968 he moved to the Theater am Turm in Frankfurt and participated, among other things, in the world premiere of public abuse directed by Claus Peymann . From 1969 he worked as an actor at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus under the artistic director Karl-Heinz Stroux . In 1972 Gruner began his directorial career at the Theater am Turm. In 1974 he moved to Darmstadt as a director under the management of Günther Beelitz . In 1976 he returned to the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus with Beelitz.

In 1980/81 he was committed to the Thalia Theater Hamburg for two productions per season . From 1987 to 1989 he was a director at the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt . In 1989 he became senior director at the Stuttgart State Theater . He has worked as a guest director at the Burgtheater in Vienna, the Volkstheater in Vienna , the Deutsches Theater Berlin as well as in Weimar , Bonn and Munich .

Furthermore, Gruner received a visiting professorship at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and a professorship at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna.

From 1999 to 2010 Gruner was acting director at the Schauspiel Dortmund , he is married to the actress Juliane Gruner.

In 1995/96 Gruner received the Karl Skraup Prize for his production of Ferdinand Raimund's Der Alpenkönig und der Menschenfeind at the Volkstheater Vienna.
