Mary Chase
Mary McDonough Coyle Chase (born February 25, 1907 in Denver , Colorado , † October 20, 1981 there ) was an American writer.
Her mother was of Irish descent, which may explain the author's love for Irish mythology. After university and working as a journalist, she married the newspaper reporter Robert Lamont Chase in 1928. As a housewife and mother, she began writing plays.
After two hardly noticed plays, she achieved her breakthrough in 1944 with Mein Freund Harvey , for which she received the " Pulitzer Prize for Theater" in 1945 . In New York alone the piece was performed 1775 times. She wrote the screenplay for two film adaptations (1950 and 1972).
