Wolfgang Hübner (director)

Wolfgang Hübner (born December 29, 1931 in Berlin ; † January 29, 2017 in Eichwalde ) was a German director and actor .

Life

Hübner completed his acting studies from 1948 to 1951 at the German Theater Institute Weimar Belvedere Palace . From 1952 to 1962 he worked at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin. In 1969 he began studying directing at the Potsdam Film and Television Academy . After graduating, Hübner worked primarily as a director of television films, but also staged numerous plays at the Berlin theater . From the 1950s he played in several DEFA films. He had his only leading role in 1960 in the NVA film Step by Step.

In the 1960s he used a hand puppet to tell bedtime stories as Rolf and Reni in the evening greeting from Our Sandman . In 1977 he was awarded the National Prize of the GDR, 2nd class for art and literature. Together with his brother Achim Hübner (1929–2014) he staged the series about people in a new building area, Einzug ins Paradies , which, banned in 1984, was still broadcast in 1987. After the reunification he continued to work as a director; Among other things, he shot several successful series such as Alle Meine Töchter (1995-2001, 33 episodes), Jenny & Co (2001, 12 episodes) and Um Himmels Willen (2003, 4 episodes).
