Dangerous Friend is a documentary film of the DEFA studios for popular science films Lothar Devaal from the year 1959 .

action

A young man, around 19 years old, is sitting with his colleague in a pub to have a beer after work. When he leaves, the boy is annoyed about it and is hectically drinking several schnapps . As a result, he feels stronger and stronger, loses his natural inhibitions and critical faculties and becomes more enterprising. When a young girl enters the pub to buy something at the counter , he goes up to her and harasses her, which can only be stopped by the intervention of other guests. He goes back to his table and keeps drinking until he's totally drunk.

This is followed by a longer, detailed scientific lecture on the effects of alcohol in a person's body and what damage it does to the brain, most of all .

An older guest is sitting at the next table and notices that someone who cannot tolerate alcohol should keep their hands off it. He has also drunk several beers himself, but is of the opinion that he was more qualified with them. That's why he gets into the truck parked in front of the bar and drives through Berlin . Outwardly there is nothing to be seen in him, but the effect of alcohol consumption can be seen in his driving style. After a few meters, he almost drives into the group of people getting on and off at a tram stop. A few corners further he drives into a delivery truck, which is observed by a traffic policeman who also discovers that the driver has drunk alcohol, which is why he is taken to a hospital where his ability to drive will be examined, which of course he has because of his reduced ability to react no longer owns.

There is no remedy that cancels out the effects of alcohol, and sleep does not help either. The young man who wants to do his job as a crane driver in housing construction the next day also has to find out . In the evening he went to bed with about 2.5 per mille and after eight hours of sleep he still has about 1.3 per mille in his blood, which can be seen from his reactions. When he tears down a freshly bricked pillar with his crane due to carelessness, his colleagues have had enough of him and throw him off the crane.

Throughout the film, the commentator points out the connections with excessive alcohol consumption and explains the consequences.
