About this picture

The municipality of Gülitz-Reetz is located in the Prignitz district in Brandenburg . It is part of the Putlitz-Berge office .

The community was created on December 31, 2001 from the voluntary amalgamation of the previously independent communities of Gülitz and Reetz.

geography

The community is located about 15 kilometers north of the district town of Perleberg. The Stepenitz river flows east of the municipality . Ten kilometers to the north - already in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania - are the Ruhner Mountains .

Community structure

According to its main statute, the Gülitz-Reetz municipality includes the inhabited parts of the municipality Gülitz (formerly Gühlitz), Reetz, Schönholz and Wüsten Vahrnow. In addition, there are the housing areas for expansion and Vahrnow.

history

Gülitz and Reetz belonged to the ancestral seats of the noble family Kaphengst . The Gülitz and Vahrnow estates were owned by the von Winterfeld family for a long time . Only a few day laborer's houses , farm buildings and the reapers barracks still bear witness to this. The manor house in Gülitz burned down during wartime, the house in Vahrnow was demolished in the 1980s after it had fallen into disrepair. In the 19th century there were the two northernmost lignite opencast mines in the area of today's Brandenburg. Deeper parts of the extensive brown coal deposit were mined using the civil engineering process . It was not until 1949 that lignite mining in the Gülitz lignite mines was finally stopped.

Gülitz and Reetz belonged to the Westprignitz district in the province of Brandenburg since 1817 and to the Perleberg district in the GDR district of Schwerin from 1952 . Since 1993 the places have been in the Brandenburg district of Prignitz.

On January 1, 1973, Wüsten Vahrnow was incorporated into Gülitz. Today's municipality of Gülitz-Reetz was created on December 31, 2001 through the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Gülitz and Reetz.
