Great Pankow

Groß Pankow manor house (eye clinic)

The manor in Groß-Pankow belonged to the Gans zu Putlitz family . Waldemar zu Putlitz was killed on May 2, 1945 when the Red Army marched in . The estate was expropriated without compensation in autumn 1945. A son of Waldemar zu Putlitz, Gisbert zu Putlitz , became a well-known professor of experimental physics in the Federal Republic. Bernhard von Barsewisch from the family was able to purchase the estate with Gutspark again after reunification, repaired it and has been running an eye day clinic there since 1993.

In October 2013, excavations were carried out in a Young Bronze Age settlement from the 1st millennium BC in the run-up to road construction work near Groß Pankow near Bundesstraße 189 . An army road ran here between Perleberg and Pritzwalk. Unexpectedly, a significantly younger, complete skeleton was found in an unusual position. With the help of an iron belt buckle, the find could be dated between the 15th and 17th centuries. The remains of the 35-39 old man had numerous unhealed fractures. All of the bones in the arms and legs were broken, and the skull was partially severed from the skull. It was concluded that an execution by wheels would be the first such skeleton find in German-speaking countries.

Tangendorf

The village was first mentioned as a tank village in 1492 . The name is derived from the personal name tank . In 1954 the local church was built. It is the only church in the Prignitz district that was built after the Second World War. The Harvest Festival and the Oven Festival take place annually with Hohenvier.
