Uwe Saeger

Uwe Saeger (born January 3, 1948 in Ueckermünde ) is a German writer.

Life

Saeger studied education in Greifswald from 1966 to 1970 and worked as a teacher for six years, interrupted only by his military service in 1972/73 as a border soldier. He has been a freelance writer since 1976 and has published novels, short stories and poems as well as radio and television plays. His works are regionally shaped, but do not glorify the homeland in a clichéd manner, but rather depict "observed and experienced life in a critical-realistic manner" (Hannes Krauss).

After controversies in the GDR about his literature, he dealt very critically with the living conditions in the country, which did not meet with much interest in the former Federal Republic, as he was only awarded the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in 1987 in known to western countries.

Uwe Saeger is married and has three children.

Awards

• 1987 - Ingeborg Bachmann Prize
• 1993 - Adolf Grimme Prize with silver for landscape with thorns or death games (together with Bernd Böhlich , Martin Schlesinger and Ben Becker )
• 1993 - Honorary gift for important literary works from the German Schiller Foundation
• 1996 - Culture Prize of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
