Stefan Wolle (born October 22, 1950 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German historian specializing in GDR research .

Life

Wool studied history in East Berlin . In 1972 he was for political reasons by the Humboldt University of Berlin relegated and worked as a laborer. He then continued his studies from 1973 to 1976. From 1976 to 1989 he was a research assistant at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR ; In 1984 he received his doctorate there with the dissertation The Contribution of German Historians to the Study of Old Russian History at the beginning of the 19th century (1801-1815) .

After the fall of the wall, he became an expert on the Stasi files at the round table , an employee of the committee for the dissolution of the Ministry for State Security and the Federal Commissioner for the records of the State Security Service of the former GDR . There he was dismissed without notice in March 1991 by the Stasi special envoy Joachim Gauck after his opinion was published, according to which the IM activities of the last Prime Minister of the GDR Lothar de Maizière had been proven .

At the beginning of 1990, together with Armin Mitter , he initiated the Independent Association of Historians , which was directed against the established history of the GDR.

From 1991 to 1997 he was a research assistant at the Humboldt University, then a scholarship from the German Research Foundation .

From 1998 to 2000, Stefan Wolle was a consultant at the Federal Foundation for Coming to terms with the SED dictatorship , and since 2002 he has been a member of the SED State research association at the Free University of Berlin .

Since 2005 Stefan Wolle has been Scientific Director of the GDR Museum in Berlin.
