action

Jean Berlinger is a master thief. Commissioner Leibniz and he have known each other for a long time, Berlinger switched sides after two years of police service. He says with a smile that he works in an industry that makes Leibniz 'job possible in the first place. But Leibniz replies that it has no future, because he has too good a heart for a gangster. It is true that he collected a lot of money for the “ sunflowers ” from Van Gogh , which the museum received back, which he gave to a retirement home threatened with closure. And with the Rubens picture he found, he supported a homeless shelter. As far as he knew, his last coup was two years ago. He must be broke soon. “One day I'll get you, you're not always lucky,” the inspector is sure. “Only the untalented need luck,” replies Berlinger and turns to leave.

Bust of Nefertiti that Berlinger wants to steal from the film

Berlinger intends to steal the " Bust of Nefertiti " exhibited in the Old Egyptian Museum in Berlin . Using an adjacent building that houses a kindergarten, he gets an overview of how best to get into the museum and makes appropriate arrangements. He had met Julia Weber, who works there as a kindergarten teacher, twice before. To talk to her about the theft of her bicycle, he invites the young woman to a fine restaurant. However, she has her own opinion about a small portion of pasta that should cost € 25. However, to Julia’s surprise, he can return her stolen bike. Since he can also deal with the kindergarten children very well, Julia falls in love with him and after a few detours they spend a night together.

It just happened that Julia discovered what Berlinger was planning. He explains to her that he has been stealing art and selling it to rich people for almost 30 years. Yes, he used her at first, but then he was excited about her and fell in love with her. Julia has to digest and think about it first. But she then declares that she is willing to take part if Berlinger pays for the complete renovation of the kindergarten, rent for five years, new toys and two additional teachers. Since the real Nefertiti is already on her way to an art exhibition in Paris, Berlinger wants to steal a copy made by Juliet's colleague Teresa. In addition to her work in kindergarten, Teresa is also a talented sculptor with a practical disposition, which is why she voted for Berlinger's proposal. So that it looks as if he didn't know that the real Nefertiti is no longer in her place in the museum, the master thief takes the fence Pajak with him and, after he has collected the second half of the million, puts him down again with the help of the kindergarten children. In the end, Pajak is even grateful to him and says he is a genius. Shortly afterwards, Jean Berlinger is drinking champagne in his chauffeur-driven car with Julia on his way to Paris.

criticism

TV Spielfilm gave it a medium rating (thumbs to the side) and drew the conclusion once a thief, always a thief is an "all too smooth ironed smirk thriller." Later: "not very original crook joke full of bad gimmicks and do-gooders." Conclusion: "thriller fun of the throttled Art. "

The film service was of the opinion that this was a "romantic (television) crook comedy under the Damocles sword of communal debt and Hartz IV , who jokes under the auspices of untenable social conditions". “A criminally belittling film in times of political and social disorientation. - Possible from 14. "
