Grandpa the Hero is an American television adventure film from 1998.

action

George Piper, who is rather listless in his work and family life, has only one real passion: The diary entries of his great-grandfather Jeremiah Piper, who describes his own heroic deeds during the American Civil War and which George even reenacts in his hobby room. George is so enthusiastic about reading it that he even often comes across the ghost of his ancestor. The spirit of Jeremiah warns George one day to do something about the dire situation in his family life before it is too late and the family falls apart. So George decides to go on vacation with his wife Bess and the children Josh and Rachel in a motorhome and at the same time to explore the historical traces of his great-grandfather.

The trip turns out to be riddled with mishaps and catastrophes, with the disputes of the family members with each other sometimes openly to light. Finally, upon arrival at the destination of the journey, the "Cripple Creek" battlefield, it turns out that Jeremiah Piper was in fact a coward and that his diary stories were all fictional . But the disappointment with his previous idol also has its good side for George Piper, who realizes what is really important to him in his life: namely his family. Eventually he regains their trust and affection and after a long time the family members have come closer again through the journey.
