David Rasche

David Rasche (born August 7, 1944 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American actor .

Life

Born in St. Louis and raised in Illinois , Rasche - whose name is pronounced Raschi in English - graduated from Elmhurst College and the University of Chicago .

David Rasche began his career in the theater , but has also acted in numerous films and television series . After John Belushi's move to Saturday Night Live , Rasche became a member of The Second City theater group in Chicago .

Rasche played - barely recognizable - a nuclear terrorist in the 1983 television film Special Bulletin . By far his best-known role was the title role in the television series Sledge Hammer! in the late 1980s. The portrayal of a violent and chauvinistic police officer earned him rave reviews. The series is now considered a cult series .

Well-known films in which Rasche took part include Vollmarried , Flug 93 , The Sentinel - Whom can you trust? , Flags of Our Fathers , Burn After Reading - Who's Burning Their Fingers Here? and Men in Black III .

Rasche is married to Heather Lupton , with whom he has three children, and who made a guest appearance as Hammer's ex-wife on the Sledge Hammer series .
