action
In the months after director Carl Denham brought the giant monkey King Kong to New York , he was plagued by claims for damages after he was shot down from the Empire State Building. In order to escape the demands, he sets sail again with Captain Englehorn, with whom he had already traveled to Kong's home, Skull Island .
On the island of Dakang they get to know the singer Helene and her father, who deny their existence with a moderate show. Captain Nils Helstrom, who at the time sold Denham the card to Skull Island , is also on Dakang .
In an argument, Helstrom kills Helene's father and burns down Helene and her father's show theater. In the pub, Helstrom tells Denham and Englehorn about a treasure that is said to be on Skull Island . In the hope of making money again, Denham and Englehorn head for Skull Island together with Helstrom.
During the journey, Helene appears as a stowaway; Denham does not hide the tense relationship between her and Helstrom. When Helstrom incites the ship's crew to mutiny , he, Denham, Englehorn and Helene are abandoned in a boat and land on Skull Island .
After a moderately warm welcome by the tribal chief, Denham and Helen meet King Kong's son and rescue him from the quicksand with the help of a tree trunk. Denham expresses his grief over what he did to King Kong months earlier.
They also meet other dinosaurs, against whom Kong comes to their aid. Helstrom admits the alleged treasure was a lie. When Denham finds a treasure in a cave, the island is suddenly shaken by an earthquake . While fleeing to the boat, Helstrom fell victim to a dinosaur. Shortly before Skull Island sinks into the water and Kong drowns, he can bring Denham to the rescue boat. On the drive home, Denham and Helene get closer.
Reviews
“Conceived as a continuation of the sensational success" King Kong ", the film takes a more relaxed, cheerful pace. As with the predecessor, the amazing special effects are convincing. "
