Malcolm Cooke

Malcolm Cooke (born June 23, 1929 in Willesden , Middlesex , † December 2, 2008 in London ) was a British film editor and sound designer who has overseen more than 40 cinema and television productions in his 40-year career. These include modern classics from international cinema such as Darling , The Lady of Thornhill , The Castle in the Ardennes , Brannigan - A Man of Steel or Death on the Nile .

life and career

Malcolm Cooke, born in 1929 in Willesden, Middlesex, began his career in 1956 as a clay designer. His first production was Terence Young's adventure film Zarak Khan . Over the next decade, he worked for directors such as John Huston , Alberto Lattuada , Joseph Losey , Michael Powell , John Schlesinger , Karel Reisz and Cy Endfield .

In 1967 he switched from sound to film editing . There he made contributions as an editor for cinema productions such as Die Herrin von Thornhill by John Schlesinger (1967), The Castle in the Ardennes by Sydney Pollack (1991), Theater des Horens by Douglas Hickox (1973), Brannigan - A Man of Steel (1975) again for director Hickox, for whom he oversaw a total of six films up to 1983, also the cinema productions Death on the Nile (1978) for director John Guillermin , the space adventure Flash Gordon (1980) for Mike Hodges , Supergirl (1984) for director Jeannot Szwarc or the American television miniseries Scarlett in 1994, starring Joanne Whalley and Timothy Dalton .

Malcolm Cooke ended his long career in 2000. He died in December 2008 at the age of 79 in London.
