Diego Abatantuono (born May 20, 1955 in Milan ) is an Italian actor and screenwriter .

Life

Abatantuono was born in Milan. His father comes from Apulia , his mother from Como . She worked as a cloakroom in a Milan jazz club that later became a cabaret called Derby . The owner of this establishment was the uncle Abatantuonos. Diego Abatantuono started out as a light worker in the derby , and later became artistic director and also worked as an actor. After some time with the comedic music group Gatti di Vicolo Miracoli and a few smaller roles in movies, he returned to the derby . Here he was discovered by the famous TV show host , film director and talent scout Renzo Arbore , who hired him for a role in his film Il Pap'occhio (1980), with Roberto Benigni . Here Abantantuono's successful film career began in the role of an uncultivated immigrant from southern Italy (the Terruncello ). It was here that he spoke for the first time the personal form of the jargon, which was to become a kind of trademark.

His greatest success was the 1982 film Eccezzziunale ... veramente (he also wrote the screenplay), in which he portrays three different forms of tifoso (fan) of the most famous football teams in Italy, AC Milan , Inter Milan and Juventus Turin .

He got his first role as a dramatic actor in 1986 when he was hired by Pupi Avati for his film Regalo di Natale . Occasionally Abatantuono reverted to comic roles, but now played mostly dramatic roles in numerous films by his friend Gabriele Salvatores , including the Oscar- winning film Mediterraneo , Nirvana, and I'm Not Afraid .

Abatantuono is also a popular figure on Italian television shows and a longtime AC Milan fan.
