Life

Salvatores is a film director and screenwriter who primarily deals with groups of men who are attached to their past and who can only overcome their longings and devote themselves to new goals in the course of their life stories. The subject of "travel" plays a major role in his films. It is never just a matter of geographic journeys, but also the journey itself, into constructed worlds or into the past of the characters, are central motifs in his works. The atmosphere of his work is in no way inferior to the work of his colleagues Giuseppe Tornatore or Nanni Moretti and Silvio Soldini .

He made his first feature film “Sogno di una notte d'estate” in 1983. He had his breakthrough in 1989 with the film Marrakech Express, and in 1992 his directorial work Mediterraneo received the Oscar for best foreign language film . In 1997 he made the film Nirvana . In 2003 he started with the film I'm not afraid in the Berlinale 2003 competition . For this film he received the Italian film award for best youth film in 2004 and was appointed to the international jury of the Berlinale in the same year.
