Niccolò Ammaniti

Niccolò Ammaniti (born September 25, 1966 in Rome ) is an Italian writer and occasional screenwriter .

Life

Ammaniti is part of the Italian group of writers I Cannibali ('The Cannibals'), on whose anthology Gioventù Cannibale ('Cannibal Youth') he contributed with a story written together with Luisa Brancaccio .

After publishing essays and short stories, he achieved his breakthrough in Italy with L'ultimo capodanno (German title: 'The last night on the islands'). Several of his works provided the basis for films, including the one that is still considered his best known: Io non ho paura ('I'm not afraid'). The 2001 novel was made into a film by the Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores in 2002 (see: I'm not afraid ).

Ammaniti has also worked as a screenwriter since the late 1990s, taking part in film adaptations of his own works. In 2012 the film Ich und Du was made based on the novel 'You and I' from 2010. He wrote the screenplay and directed the eight-part series A Miracle (Il miracolo) broadcast by Arte in 2018 in Italy .
