Giancarlo De Cataldo (born February 7, 1956 in Taranto ) is an Italian judge and author of detective novels .

Life

De Cataldo has lived in Rome since he began his law studies in 1974 , where he is now (2014) a judge at the jury (Corte d'Assise). De Cataldo is a writer, translator, writer of plays and screenplays for television. He has written a number of crime stories and is also the editor of edited volumes of crime stories by Italian authors. He is also an employee of various Italian newspapers such as La Repubblica , L'Unità , La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno , Il Messaggero , Il Nuovo , Paese Sera and Hot! .

His four novels Nelle mani giuste ( Dirty Hands ), La forma della paura ( Time of Anger ), Romanzo Criminale ( Romanzo Criminale ) and Io sono il Lebanese ( The King of Rome ) represent a tetralogy, all by the Italian mafia of act from the 1970s until today.

Several of De Cataldo's novels were filmed, such as Romanzo Criminale as a feature film (2005) and television series (2008-2010) and Suburra as a feature film ( Suburra , 2015) and television series ( Suburra: Blood on Rome , 2017). In 2016 De Cataldo was appointed to the competition jury of the 73rd Venice International Film Festival .
