Premio Giorgio Scerbanenco
The Premio Giorgio Scerbanenco - La Stampa is an Italian literary prize that has been awarded for the best Italian-language detective novel of the year since 1993 . It is regarded as the most important award for works of crime literature in Italy and is presented every year in December in cooperation with the daily newspaper La Stampa at the Noir in Festival in Courmayeur . The namesake for the award is originally from the Ukraine Italian Giorgio Scerbanenco (1911–1969). The author, who was awarded the prestigious French Grand prix de littérature policière in 1968 , achieved great fame in Italy primarily for his detective novels about the former scientist and detective Duca Lamberti. The award was initiated by his daughter Cecilia Scerbanenco.
A jury consisting of literary critics, well-known crime writers and, in exceptional cases, the prize founder will vote on the winner. The jury is also presided over by a president. Each year, the jury members put together a shortlist of crime novels (both classic representatives of the genre and Italian hard-boiled crime novels) that have appeared in the last twelve months. The list of tracks, which includes around twenty works, will be published on the Courmayeur Noir in Festivals website several weeks before the festival begins , and the public will be invited to vote on their favorites. The audience votes are included in the jury evaluation, which selects several finalists from the list of titles, from which the Premio Scerbanenco is awarded.
In 2007, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Premio Scerbanenco, a special prize was awarded to all previous winners. The “SuperScerbanenco” went to the winners of 1996 and 2003, Carlo Lucarelli and Giancarlo De Cataldo .
