Loriano Macchiavelli (born March 12, 1934 in Vergato , Province of Bologna ) is an author of crime novels , short stories and dramas , who also worked as an actor at the beginning of his career .

Life

Macchiavelli lives in Bologna , where many of his stories take place, and is considered one of the founders of the modern Italian crime novel. In 1974 he created the most popular character of the genre in Italy: Commissioner Antonio Sarti. Together with the authors Marcello Fois and Carlo Lucarelli , Macchiavelli founded the literary association "Gruppo 13".

Honors

In 2007 he was awarded the Premio Giorgio Scerbanenco for the best Italian detective novel of the year for the novel Tango e gli altri, which he wrote together with Francesco Guccini .

criticism

“The special thing ... is on the one hand the self-confident narrator, who constantly interferes with the action and comments on it. This is a rather rare literary phenomenon in detective novels - it provides a lot of fun and entertainment. On the other hand, Sarti Antonio is a wonderfully headstrong investigator, a simple man who always names his last name before his first name, is not always the fastest in his head, loves good espresso and suffers from intestinal inflammation. Not a hero, but one who walks upright through the streets of a big city - this novel is a wonderful portrait of Bologna and a subtle and subtle detective novel "
