List of regiments of the Lower Saxony Reichskreis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Holy Roman Empire, the Lower Saxon Imperial Circle consisted essentially of the partial principalities of the former Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg , Mecklenburg-Schwerins , Holstein and the imperial cities of Hamburg , Bremen and Lübeck . In the imperial circle, foreign territories that had no interest in a strong imperial policy of the district were decisive: Great Britain (" Kurhannover "), Prussia ( Archbishopric Magdeburg , Hochstift Halberstadt ), Sweden ( Archbishopric Bremen ), Denmark (Holstein). The Reichskreis had only a very limited military significance in its history. Especially in the Turkish Wars and most recently in the Imperial War against France in 1674, he raised his own district troops . In the 18th century, the electorate of Braunschweig-Lüneburg in particular fulfilled its obligations with house regiments.
