Gianrico Carofiglio (born May 30, 1961 in Bari ) is an Italian writer , lawyer and senator .

Carofiglio worked in his hometown of Bari for years as a judge and anti-Mafia -Staatsanwalt. He appeared as the author of specialist books on expressive psychology and interrogation techniques. From 2007 to April 2008 he worked as an advisor to the Anti-Mafia Commission of the Italian Parliament .

In 2000 he realized a childhood dream and wrote his first detective novel, which was published as a book in 2002, a year after its completion, and was immediately very successful. Six more novels by Carofiglio have now been published in Italy. Four of them are crime novels about the protagonist Guido Guerrieri, a lawyer who works as a criminal defense attorney. The novels are characterized above all by the lively portrayal of suspenseful court scenes. Carofiglio's books have been honored with numerous literary prizes in Italy. a. with the renowned Premio Bancarella , in Germany 2008 with the Radio Bremen crime prize . The foreign licenses of his novels have been sold in 16 countries so far, and some have been filmed for Italian television.

In the elections on April 13 and 14, 2008, he was elected for the Partito Democratico in the Senate , the second chamber of parliament.
