Thomas Koebner

Thomas Koebner (born July 22, 1941 in Berlin ) is a German journalist , literary and media scholar .

Life

Koebner studied German , art history and philosophy with Walter Müller-Seidel , Hans Sedlmayr , Wolfgang Stegmüller a . a.

During this time he worked full-time as a music critic in Munich for 10 years . After receiving his doctorate , he worked from 1967 to 1970 as a lecturer for modern German literary history and for theater studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 1970 to 1972 he worked as a lecturer in theater , film and television studies at the University of Cologne .

From 1972 to 1973 he was film commissioner for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation . From 1973 to 1983 he held a professorship for German and general literary studies at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal , which he was involved in establishing. From 1983 to 1989 he was appointed professor for modern German literature with a focus on media studies at the Philipps University of Marburg . From 1989 to 1992 he was director of the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb) . In 1993 he was called to Hamburg and Mainz . Since 1993 he has been a professor of film studies in Mainz and retired in 2007.

Activity as author and editor

Since the first book on the life and work of the Austrian writer Hermann Broch (1965), Koebner has published numerous volumes and texts on German literature of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, music theater , film history and television films . He is the founder of several specialist bodies, u. a. of the yearbook Exilforschung , the journals Discurs (together with Jan Berg, Günther Erken, Bruno Fischli, Uta Ganschow, Lothar Schwab and Richard Weber ), media studies and moment , later the quarterly journal Film Concepts (together with Fabienne Liptay) and the cultural studies publication series Projektionen .
