Walter Müller-Seidel

Walter Müller-Seidel (born July 1, 1918 in Schöna , Saxony , † November 27, 2010 in Munich ) was a German specialist in German .

Life

Müller-Seidel studied in Leipzig and received his doctorate in 1949 in Heidelberg , where he was Paul Böckmann's assistant , with a dissertation on "The pathetic and sublime in Schiller's youthful dramas". His habilitation thesis was for Heinrich von Kleist . In 1960 he was appointed to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he taught until his retirement in 1986.

Müller-Seidel had been a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences since 1974 . In 1996 he was elected a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .

Walter Müller-Seidel was married to the ancient historian Ilse Müller-Seidel (1918–2011).

In 1989 Müller-Seidel received the highest award from the Goethe Society in Weimar eV: The Golden Goethe Medal . In 2004 he received an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Dresden .
