Golden Goethe Medal

The Golden Goethe Medal is an honor that has been given irregularly since 1910 by the Goethe Society , which was founded in Weimar in 1885 , and which is bestowed on people with special merits in researching and communicating the life, work and work of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe . The award is made in public form by the President of the Goethe Society at the decision of the Executive Board. The Golden Goethe Medal is the highest award of the Goethe Society. It was created over decades by the medalist Helmut König , who died in 2017 .

The Golden Goethe Medal should not be confused with the Goethe Medal for Art and Science ; the Goethe Medal of the Goethe Institute ; the Goethe Prize of the City of Frankfurt ; the Goethe plaque of the city of Frankfurt am Main or the Goethe plaque of the state of Hesse .
