Pupi Avati (2008)

Pupi Avati (born November 3, 1938 in Bologna ; actually Giuseppe Avati ) is an Italian director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

Avati started making music in his youth; he played the clarinet with the Dixie Criminal Jazz Band and from 1957 with the Reno Dixieland Band . Numerous appearances in radio programs were in addition to numerous live performances, where he also met Lucio Dalla , with whom he wrote and performed the musical Ma è poi esistito Louis Procope in 1965 .

Avati, who studied political science in Bologna without completing his studies, earned his living as a worker in a company for frozen products. In 1968 he was able to make his first film through his contacts in the film industry and was initially responsible for some unusual genre films in the following years. His later work ranges from comedy to biographical Bix (via Bix Beiderbecke ) to action-packed films. His peculiar style often defies categorization. He is one of the few Italian filmmakers who made films on a regular basis until the first decade of the new millennium. These were often produced by Avatar's brother Antonio (* 1943). His regular editor is Amedeo Salfa .
