Jane Frances Kaczmarek (born December 21, 1955 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) is an American theater and film actress with Polish roots.

Life

Kaczmarek studied at the University of Wisconsin-Madison , where she met Tony Shalhoub , with whom she later belonged to the ensemble of the theater company in Yale . She made many successful appearances on Broadway in New York City . In The Simpsons she speaks the judge Constance Harm. She achieved particular fame outside of the United States with the sitcom Malcolm in the Middle , in which she plays the role of mother Lois . In the German version of Malcolm in the middle she is dubbed by Martina Treger .

She was nominated seven times (2000-2006) for the Emmy and 2001, 2002 and 2003 for the Golden Globe Award ; also in 2001 and 2003 for the Screen Actors Guild Award . All nominations related to her role as Lois in the comedy series Malcolm in the Middle . She did not win any of the prizes.

She was married to actor Bradley Whitford . The marriage resulted in three children. On June 19, 2009, Whitford and Kaczmarek filed for divorce.
